”Every prominent attempt to address the Holy Grail issue of alerting the public to undetectable manipulations has involved labeling photos that are doctored instead of photos that are undoctored.

One of the most famous efforts to pass such a law occurred in 2015, in the French National Assembly:

“An element in the proposed law would require that all commercial photographs of models’ bodies that have been retouched digitally, with the goal of making a woman’s figure appear either thinner or fatter, must be labeled ‘retouched.’
