the “not” sentence construction

To ensure maximum flexibility for TCQ photographers — and to avoid implying an unrealistic certitude about photographs — in multiple places on this website, a “not” sentence construction is used.

In most cases saying that something does “not” have a particular characteristic is not the same as saying that it “does” have the opposite characteristic.

For example, to say that a person is “not short” is not the same as saying that they are “tall.”

The distinction can be very important.
